Great efforts are underway to support nutrition and physical activity and to achieve the vision of the Indiana Healthy Weight Initiative. All over Indiana, communities, worksites, schools, child-care centers, faith-based organizations, and many others are supporting the health of Indiana’s residents by creating healthy policies and environments. These are just a few of their stories.

School Wellness Policy Revision – West Central Schools: Stemming from their recent involvement in school health initiatives, West Central Schools updated and strengthened the language in their School Wellness Policy, specifically targeting physical activity, nutrition, and staf wellness, resulting in one of the strongest School Wellness Policies in Indiana.

Health Education and Wellness Survey – Monroe County Schools: Monroe County Community Schools developed a survey asking questions about nutrition and physical activity and found that there is overwhelming support for the schools to become more involved.

Student and Staff Pedometer Challenge – Greater Clark County Schools: The Greater Clark County Schools Wellness Committee organized a pedometer challenge for its students and staff to raise awareness of the importance of being physically active.

School Wellness Policy Revision – Bartholomew County Schools: Because of the recent movement for more physical activity and better nutrition in their schools, Bartholomew County Schools strengthened the language in their School Wellness Policy, which became one of the strongest in Indiana.
Community Garden – Marion County: Proper nutrition that includes eating fruits and vegetables can help prevent many cancers. The problem is that many Hoosiers don’t have ready access to the fruits and vegetables they need.
